Check wearable compatibility for recovery apps
Last updated on October 14, 2026
Connecting to Apple Health is a useful first step. Recovery analysis, however, depends on which records actually arrive. LeibFit reads suitable health records from Apple Health, and the Amazfit Helio Strap also directly via Bluetooth. The best way to check whether your wearable fits is therefore along the data path.
Four questions before choosing hardware
Does the device record the required values? Does its companion app write those categories to Apple Health? Are current records available consistently, every night? And may LeibFit read them with your permission? These four questions tell you more than a general statement that a brand "works with Health".
Inspect categories individually
Recovery depends on three overnight values: heart rate variability (HRV), resting heart rate and sleep. Strain adds the day's heart-rate data. Open each of these categories in Apple Health and check whether your device appears as a source with recent entries. Some integrations transfer sleep and heart rate but no HRV. A step tracker with Health export does not yet provide a basis for calculating recovery.
If one value is missing, LeibFit calculates with the others and redistributes the weight. Recovery still works but is rougher. If all three are missing, there is no recovery score. How to narrow down a gap is covered in Missing Apple Health data.
The paths in LeibFit
- Apple Watch and iPhone: records come through Apple Health. The watch needs to be worn at night.
- Other wearables: anything that writes HRV, resting heart rate or sleep to Apple Health is read the same way. The app does not filter by device. Which records your manufacturer transfers is something you check in Health yourself.
- Amazfit Helio Strap: there is also a direct Bluetooth connection that bypasses the companion app. How it works is described in Whoop alternative: Amazfit band on iPhone.
If several devices write the same night to Health, both count. What that means for your trend is explained in Understand multiple Apple Health sources.
Run a test you can reproduce
A reliable statement about a device includes the model, firmware, companion app, iOS version, the categories checked and the test date. That keeps the result verifiable and stops an old experience from turning into a permanent promise. Start with the hardware you already own before buying a new device just for a score. Allow a week: LeibFit needs records from at least seven nights for your personal baseline. When it starts, the app reads back the last 30 days from Apple Health, so existing history counts right away.
